Josh's Star Wars Page

Hello fellow Star Wars fans!  Welcome to my web page!  I love all of the Star Wars computer games, and I read all the books.  I love to play X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, and the rest.  Mysteries of the Sith is the expansion disk for Jedi Knight.  Check out my book and game reviews.   The Prequels are supposedly coming out late 1998.  Most of you Star Wars lovers should already know that though.

Game Reviews

5 lightsabers excellent, 4 lightsabers good, 3 lightsabers mediocre, 2 lightsabers poor, 1 lightsaber very poor

 Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight

This long-awaited sequel to Dark Forces was an instant hit.  With new weapons and Force Powers Kyle Katarn learned the ways of the Jedi.  Lucasarts also gave the option of choosing wheter you wanted to walk the straight and narrow, or be seduced by the power of the Dark Side.  With 21 action-packed single player levels, this made for a great game.  I give it four lightsabers!

Mysteries of the Sith

The expansion disk for Jedi Knight proved to be a great one.  With yet more weapons and a new single-player character, this expansion disk was worth the money.  It takes place several years after Jedi Knight.  Kyle Katarn has joined the Rebel cause.  In the first level Kyle is trying to protect the base from Imperial Stormtroopers.  He has to make his way all through the base, and get a shuttle out of there.  This proves to be a difficult task.  It took me several days just to get through the first level!  They say it's rare when a sequel is better than the original, but this one truly is!  With new levels, weapons, Multiplayer games,  and characters, I give it five lightsabers!

X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter

The third in a trilogy, this space sim was worth waiting for.  You can fly for the Rebellion or the Empire.  With over 60 single-player missions and a new ship, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter was the best one out of the trilogy.  In single-player there are exercises, melees, tournaments, combat scenes, and battles.  This game is really explosive!  You can join or host your own multiplayer games, and there are craft reviews.  With a new ship and all new missions, I give it 3 1/2 lightsabers!

Book Reviews

The Callista Trilogy

Starting with Children of the Jedi, this trilogy was written by Barbara Hambly.  It introduced a character named Callista.  Callista was a Jedi Knight that was trapped in the Eye of Palpatine for years on end.  Luke boards this well hidden Dreadnaught and sees Callista.  I would tell you more but that would spoil the story.

The second book Darksaber was written by Kevin J. Anderson.  In Darksaber, our heroes stumble on Durga the Hutt's diabolical plan to create a Death Star.  The engineer that designed the original Death Star built a new kind of Superlaser the was shaped in the form of a lightsaber.  Hence the name, this superlaser was intended to be Durga's instrument for striking fear in the hearts of smuggling planets.

The final book of this trilogy, named Planet of Twilight, brings Luke to the planet of Nam Chorios.  Luke found a message from Callista and knew that he had to find her.  He found out that the representative of Nam Chorios was hatching a plan to release the Death Seed plague.  He also found a new sentient species that were previously  believed to be the spirits of the ancients.  I was skeptical  about Children of the Jedi, but the last two books were worth the time it took to read them.  I give this trilogy four lightsabers!

Tales of the Empire

This book of short stories is one worth getting.  Edited by Peter Schweighofer, these ten tales of the cruel galaxy make this book a cliffhanger.  From a Corellian smuggler hired by a former Jedi Knight, to the flight of a civilian mail courier carrying vital information.  The main attraction is a novel written by Timothy Zahn and Michael A. Stackpole, which they named Side Trip.  Rich in comedy, action, and excitement, I give it 4 lightsabers.

#1 of the Bounty Hunter Wars: The Mandalorian Armor

Written by K. W. Jeter, the first book in this series is witty and action-packed.  Taking place after Shadows of the Empire, PrinceXizor suggests to Darth Vader and the Emperor that they let the members of the Bounty Hunters Guild destroy each other.  The purpose this would accomplish would be that all the weak bounty hunters would be destroyed.  Boba Fett learns of this and immediately enters.  But he finds out that his game is rigged, and that could mean death, even for Boba Fett.  Filled to the brim with action, I give it 5 lightsabers.

All I Need To Know About Life, I Learned From Star Wars

Try not.  Do or do not.   There is no try.
Anger, fear and aggression lead to the dark side.
In seeking your destiny, patience is your ally.
Always let the Wookie win.
Don't underestimate the power of the force.
Keep your promises, even if they take you far, far away.
Travelling through hyperspace isn't like dusting your crops.
In your pursuit of peace and justice, remember,
the force will be with you . . . .always!
